Alejandro Fernandez was a true pioneer in the Spanish wine industry as not only did he open the first winery, Tinto Pesquera, in the now-famous town of Pesquera del Duero, his wines went on to gain such notoriety that an entire appellation, the D.O. Ribera del Duero, was formed out of its existence. One of the topmost authorities on Tempranillo, all of Alejandro’s wines are made from 100% estate-grown fruit hailing from 15-90 (!) year-old vines, and fermented only with native yeasts. His Tempranillo temptations don’t stop there however, as he has also traveled to three additional regions in Spain where he feels the terroir is exceptional enough to produce extraordinary wines from his beloved grape varietal. On a tour of Tinto Pesquera with Niso Wine Tours, we will make sure you get to try all 4 of Alejandro’s stellar Tempranillos while visiting the original Tinto Pesquera winery and/or or the newer chateau-style Condado de Haza, located within only 20 minutes of one another.
